A Summer Project That Shook Up Human-Computer Interaction

October 27, 2009 by Erik Levitch

Some days ago, I stumbled upon an ambitious summer project that tried to redefine the way we interact with computers. The project, entitled 10GUI, takes a hard look at the inherent limitations of the mouse and the windowed desktop while looking forward for a possible solution. We've all seen how touch-screen technology has transformed the way we interact with kiosks and mobile phones, but how can we harness this type of technology for the desktop?

The Problem

I’ve watched countless videos on the potential of touch-screen and many of them do not address the hardcore 8-hour-a-day use scenario. Take a look at demos for Microsoft Surface, for example, and it becomes clear that this type of implementation isn't practical for everyday use. Imagine having to keep your arm extended toward a screen for hours while trying to create a design in Photoshop...yeah, that won't work. However, in the case of Microsoft Surface, they are using multi-touch technology to allow more complex interactions on the screen. The ability to use two hands at once goes beyond the limitations of the mouse, but is this the answer?

How to Make the Perfect Aero Pressed Coffee at Work

October 23, 2009 by Bobby Ghoshal

Nick Zadrozny, our self confessed coffee-geek, shows us how to make the perfect cup of aero pressed coffee.

You will need:

  1. A coffee grinder
  2. An aero press
  3. A micro filter
  4. A stirrer
  5. A coffee mug
  6. Hot water
  7. Coffee (important!)

After doing the math it looks like I spend approximate $125.00/month on coffee by going to our local barista. Nick buys a pound of coffee for $15.00 and it lasts him all month. That puts his daily coffee expenses at around $0.30 and mine at around $5.00 (I drink about 2 cups a day). The aero press is fun to do and it is going to save me a chunk of change. If you give it a go, let us know how it went!

October 13, 2009 by Reena Leone

Social Media is everywhere. It is on the tip of everyone’s tongue in one way or another. People tweeting this and Facebooking that. There are very few people who don’t have at least one account these days. But what was once used for fun and for connecting with friends can be used for business. And for those who are just finishing college, Social Media could be a good way to not only get a job, but to get the job you really want. This is your chance to market yourself. Are You Ready For the ULTRA Review?

October 06, 2009 by Dan Huss

There is an adage in marketing that if someone has a good experience with your brand they will tell a single person, but if someone has a bad experience with your brand they will tell 10 people. I have bad news marketers, those 10 people just turned into a million.

Yesterday, Monday October 6, 2009 at 2:34 pm Pacific Standard Time, my daily dose of random news came to me the only way that it does nowadays, through the people I follow on Twitter. I was just about to click on a link from @GuyKawasaki when I happened to notice that T-Mobile was a trending topic. Normally, that would not interest me in the least, however it caught my attention as over the last couple of days I have not had internet service on my T-Mobile Sidekick and was curious to see if it was related. So I clicked on the link to take me to tweets about T-Mobile. What I saw shocked me.
