Recently, Qualcomm hosted their annual Uplinq Conference in San Diego, CA. In a multi-OS world, it is the one place where the mobile developer community can come together and share their ideas and insights. Uplinq brought together the brightest minds in mobile development, creating a collection on unprecedented ideas and innovation.
As part of this event, Qualcomm asked Digitaria to create a digital touch screen experience for the Uplinq attendees. Our goal was to increase attendance participation outside of the various keynotes and break-out sessions.
The final result was four interactive kiosks, strategically placed throughout the conference, which allowed attendees to view user-submitted photos of the event. Viewers were asked to email their photos to photos@qualcomm.com to be entered into a contest. Behind the scenes, once a photo was received and approved, it was my job as the Editor to upload the content to the XML and make sure it is working properly on all four screens.
With these photos simultaneously displayed on kiosks throughout Uplinq, conference attendees voted on their favorites by texting the ID number of their favorite photos to a short code number. As an incentive to upload photos, a winner was chosen every few hours to win a free phone.
An important part of this conference was understanding what the kiosks really represent. Digital signage is a new frontier for Digitaria and it is garnering a lot of interest throughout many different industries. It presents new opportunities for marketers and advertisers in all industries to engage their customers in new and increasingly interactive ways.
